London (UK) Office – Conversation With Ranveer Grewal

Ranveer Grewal is based in our new London office on Chancery Lane. He joined Bluecube as an IT Service Support Engineer in February 2022, ahead of the grand opening in March. For the last four years, Ranveer has been working as a Field Engineer, which included delivering IT support for a primary school and within the digital signage industry. Before this, he worked in several roles as a 2nd Line IT Engineer.

Ranveer’s passion for IT was sparked at a young age, around 12 or 13 years old; growing up in the 1990s, when the world of computers was still in its infancy, he experienced numerous times when his household computer would become infected with viruses or break down and require fixing. Back then, the machine would need to be sent off to an IT professional and fixed over a few days.

Tired of waiting around, and eager to take fixing his family computer into his own hands, Ranveer started building and repairing his own computers. As this was the time before the internet had extensive self-learning information and ‘how-to’ videos, Ranveer developed his IT skills by trial and error, reading books and learning how the computer and parts worked. From here, he taught himself all the skills required to fix any IT issues his family experienced and kickstarted his career in IT.

What do you like most about working for Bluecube?

I like that you don’t expect the same thing every day. I also enjoy working in the London office; everyone is lovely and friendly, the location is great, and there are lots of things to do in the area. It’s not that far from Embankment, which is great to visit during a lunchbreak.

What are your interests outside of work?

Outside of work, I’m a part-time DJ for events (family and corporate) and the occasional nightclub. I’m also involved in CCTV and Wi-Fi work for a friend’s business. I also enjoy sports and keeping active; my weekends are usually busy and I like to play football and snooker.

What does a typical Bluecube work day look like for you?

We’re a new and growing team, offering support to the legal sector and Barristers Chambers in the local area on Chancery Lane. We work as ad hoc field engineers for clients based here, offering on-site IT support, carrying out audits and making sure the clients are happy.

To start the day we usually check in on the raised tickets, making sure they’re updated. We also rotate visiting clients and doing ‘walk arounds’. This typically involves dropping in to clients and the chambers, saying hello and seeing if the client needs any help; the main goal is to familiarise them with our faces and maintain a strong relationship. If the client needs any IT support, we ask them to raise a ticket and then work on delivering IT help and fixing any issues.

Can you share any successes you’ve had in your role so far at Bluecube?

When the London team first started operating at the beginning of this year, we were a completely unknown and a new team. Now, clients and people within Bluecube know exactly who we are. We have all worked incredibly hard to build this, and this recognition is tribute to our success so far.

For anyone visiting the London office, what would you recommend that they check out in the local area?

There are lots of things to do and see in the local area, from visiting Holborn, Temple or Embankment to wandering around the nice gardens. You can also go shopping along a strip of shops or eat at popular chain restaurants.

In Holborn, there is a great Indian restaurant called, The Colonel Saab, which is definitely worth eating at.

For a great variety of food stalls (Mexican, Indian, Peruvian, Korean, Brazilian, Ethiopian, Lebanese, Japanese, Thai and many more), check out Leather Street Market; it’s a great place to eat at lunchtime.

For new colleagues joining the team, we can recommend loads of local places!
